Blatnik's illusion

Once the autumn season has come and gone I tend to struggle on what to capture locally. Maybe its that sense of preparing for the coming winter season I can’t say for sure.

I had taken many images of the Blatnik bridge over the years but couldn't seem to get that vision that I was looking for. I spent about two weeks trying to capture this mood of this iconic bridge here and most didn’t fit what I had envisioned. I was feeling quite defeated by the outcomes.

One morning, I decided to give it another go. I wasn’t sure how the morning light would turn out but I was willing to try again. From a previous attempt, I knew that this was the composition I wanted because it felt so right to me. Once I was ready to capture this beautiful structure, the light was fading in and out. In my mind, I was thinking that this would be another bust of a day. turns out that the light was secretly working in my favor.

A ship was passing by so I decided to wait for it to pass. Soon after, that morning light lit up this scene perfectly. I knew a longer exposure would work for this scene.

There was definitely a lesson here that taught me to keep going and that things would work out when the timing was right. This image proves that perfectly.
